Former Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa has taken the next step in his legal battle to get the 2008 World Championship overturned

Former Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa has taken the next step in his legal battle to get the 2008 World Championship overturned

The Brazilian claims he's the rightful champion, despite finishing runner-up to Lewis Hamilton 15 years ago.

Massa has filed a lawsuit overnight in a London court amid his attempt to claim the title.

Massa's claims are based on who knew what and when at the Singapore Grand Prix that year, when Renault's Nelson Piquet Junior deliberately crashed to help then-teammate Fernando Alonso win.

The crash brought a safety car out, which forced Massa to squander a lead before a calamitous pit stop dropped the Ferrari driver drop to 13th.

He lost the title by a point but claims it was known at the time the crash was deliberate and not investigated.
