    A former prison guard jailed for life for murdering his childhood friend has appealed his sentence and conviction


    David Benbow denies killing Michael McGrath in Christchurch's Halswell in 2017.

    A body has never been found.

    Benbow was found guilty in the High Court at Christchurch in October.

    It was his second trial, after an earlier hung jury.

    He was sentenced this month to life in prison, serving a minimum 17 years.
