Wellington Phoenix coach Giancarlo Italiano is calling for rule changes after Alex Rufer's controversial red card against the Brisbane Roar

Wellington Phoenix coach Giancarlo Italiano is calling for rule changes after Alex Rufer's controversial red card against the Brisbane Roar

The captain was sent off for standing on Brisbane's Henry Hore in an attempt to dislodge the ball stuck between his legs.

Rufer will serve a minimum one-match ban but could be suspended for up to three.

Italiano says it was a harsh call.

The Phoenix are yet to decide whether they'll appeal.
