Swimmers have been cleared from Pauanui Beach, on the eastern Coromandel Peninsula, after a shark sighting

Surf Life Saving says life guards began calling swimmers from the water about 1 this afternoon.

It's less than 48 hours since a woman died after a suspected shark attack at nearby Bowentown, near Waihi Beach -- about 50-kilometres south of Pauanui.
