Excavators and machinery are operating on a beach at the mouth of the Esk River in Hawke's Bay again today, as police investigate the disappearance of Joseph Ahuriri

The man and his Toyota Hilux went missing during Cyclone Gabrielle last year.

A cordon remains in place at the scene.

Officers can be seen assisting a family inside the cordon, who are watching the ongoing excavation.

Police have refused to provide details of the search, only issuing a general statement they're making enquiries as part of the ongoing investigation.
