A New South Wales magistrate has found 67-year-old Archbishop of Adelaide Philip Wilson guilty of covering up abuse by priest Jim Fletcher in the Hunter region in the 1970s.
His lawyers made four attempts to have the case thrown out, arguing it wasn't in the public interest.
They also argued he shouldn't stand trial because of his diagnosis for Alzheimer's, although it didn't prevent him from retaining his position at the church.
Wilson has always maintained he didn't know about the abuse.
