A 28-year-old has faced Hamilton District Court today after an attempted car-jacking in the city overnight

5 July 2023

Police say a man was seen acting suspiciously near the intersection of Wairere Drive and River Road about 1.10am.

He allegedly approached a stopped vehicle and tried to pull the driver out - but they were able to get free and drive off.

The man then fled to nearby Harrowfield, where he was arrested.

Police says this is the result of proactive work from Hamilton City Council - who monitor the city's traffic cameras.

The man is charged with assault with attempt to rob.
