Hopes for sheep farmers that the six-year low in lamb prices, will eventually come right

Hopes for sheep farmers that the six-year low in lamb prices, will eventually come right

Prices have dropped 20 percent in recent weeks -- with some companies now offering six-dollars-50 a kilo -- down from eight-dollars-30 two seasons ago.

A large number of ewes have had twins this season, but it hasn't cancelled out the drop in prices.

Farm consultant Gary Massicks says the dairy industry's recovery is a cause for optimism.

But he says it might not come until the middle of winter, and by that stage most of their lambs would have been sold.
