Vittorio Malingri , the Italian skipper of Translated-9, has reflected on becoming the first boat to arrive in Auckland on the second leg of the 50-year anniversary round-the-world race

Vittorio Malingri , the Italian skipper of Translated-9, has reflected on becoming the first boat to arrive in Auckland on the second leg of the 50-year anniversary round-the-world race

One condition of the event is that vessels must have been designed before 1988

Malingri completed the leg from Cape Town alongside his first mate - and son - Nico.

Malingri's father and uncle took part in the inaugural 1973 edition.

Maiden is the fourth boat into port this morning - 10 others remain en route.
