It's mooting cuts to staff among its Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Sciences staff, to help meet savings targets.
The Union expects a second round of cuts would then follow -- and could stretch to other faculties.
Organiser Shane Vugler , says it'll increase the workload for already struggling staff.
He says the expected increase in student numbers this year will add even more pressure.
Waikato University has been approached for comment.
