Dozens of staff and residents at a dementia care unit in Levin were forced to evacuate overnight, after a fire broke out at the home

The blaze at the Millvale House Rest Home is now out, following a large emergency response.

24 residents and staff were evacuated from the rest home at around three this morning.

Two people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Fire investigators remain onsite - but the cause of the blaze is currently unclear.
