The Auckland Ratepayers Alliance says the latest Government measure to ease rates, only solves a small part of the problem

The Auckland Ratepayers Alliance says the latest Government measure to ease rates, only solves a small part of the problem

From July it's raising the maximum rates rebate for low income homeowners by 40 dollars, and increasing the income abatement threshold.

Alliance Spokesperson Sam Warren says the responsibility for lowering rates should rest with council.

He says it doesn't address the underlying issue of ever increasing rates.

Warren says many are struggling with rates and only a small number of people will benefit.
