A health commentator says asking hospitals to find millions in savings by June is a desperate attempt to balance the books

A health commentator says asking hospitals to find millions in savings by June is a desperate attempt to balance the books

The directive comes from Health New Zealand and includes savings of half a million from Wairarapa to 15.5 million in Auckland.

The agency says resources aren't being taken away from delivering frontline services.

Health commentator Ian Powell says inevitably services will be affected.

Health Minister Shane Reti says it's not a Government decision, but there will be no impact on the level of care patients receive.
