Rumer Willis is a trained doula

The 35-year-old actress became a first-time mother last year when she welcomed her little girl Louetta - her first child with partner Derek Richard Thomas - and she has now revealed she worked with the women who helped her give birth to become a postpartum doula so she can help other new mums

In a post on her Instagram page, Rumer explained: "I think it is so important to have someone come and support you, especially as a new first-time mom. I am a trained as a postpartum doula now because I want to be of service to other women."

She added in a video: "I did my postpartum training with my incredible midwives... they are continuing to do the postpartum training. It was unbelievably valuable to me not only as a new mom and learning how to more deeply care for myself but also potentially learning how to give that care to others."

In a question-and-answer session with fans on the platform, Rumer hinted she may explore more career options and could potentially train as a midwife.

When asked what is next for her career, Rumer replied: "Music, movies, midwifery."

Rumer celebrated her daughter Louetta's first birthday earlier this month and in a previous post on Instagram, she reflected on the last 12 months with her "gift" of a child.

Sharing a slidshow of photos from her pregnancy, birth, and the tot's first year - including with Louetta's dementia-stricken grandfather Bruce Willis - Rumer wrote on Instagram: "Oh my tiny tender daughter, I CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE 1

"This last year with you has been the best year of my life. Lou I have never known a love like yours. You are the most delicious, most beautiful, smartest, funniest, sweetest girl I know.

"I can't believe you choose me to be your mama oh my goodness. Every day you grow and learn more and you are my greatest teacher and my deepest love. "You are a gift to every one you meet and your smile is almost blinding it's so magical. Your laugh is my favourite sound in the whole wide world. Your tiny kisses are the best thing to wake up to. I love you so deep in my bones my tiny daughter. I can't wait to see what this next year brings!!"
