Police are still hunting a person suspected of shooting a man dead on Auckland's Ponsonby Road about 10.15 last night

Police are still hunting a person suspected of shooting a man dead on Auckland's Ponsonby Road about 10.15 last night

Auckland Transport says Ponsonby Road will stay closed until mid-afternoon, between Franklin and Richmond roads.

Auckland Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson told Newstalk ZB it's important people let Police thoroughly investigate what happened.

She says the attack will be concerning for businesses and residents - and the people of Ponsonby are in her thoughts.

Police are expected to address media on the shooting at 12.30.
