Emergency services responded to calls on the corner of Birches and Trices Roads in Prebbleton - just before 3.30pm.
A St John spokesperson says one person is seriously injured, three people have moderate injuries and eight people have minor injuries - and are being transported to Christchurch Hospital.
Ambulance territory manager, Craig Downing, says the bus had 25 passengers - and the others have been sent to a medical centre for low level care.
Witness, Lachie Hlaca says a lot of people are in shock.
He says a red car didn't give way at an intersection, and the bus swerved and went into a hedge - to avoid it.
