A mountain guide holed up on Mount Aspiring for most of this week, is back home nursing a sore knee

The man, in his 40s, was injured in a rock fall, and set up in a hut waiting to be rescued.

Wanaka search and rescue chairman, Bill Day, says bad weather prevented crews getting to him and he managed to walk out.

He says he had three days of rest, and plenty of ice around the hut to help him recover.
