KiwiRail's taking a financial hit, from falling freight volumes and weather-related outages

KiwiRail's taking a financial hit, from falling freight volumes and weather-related outages

    InterIslander
    InterIslander
The Palmerston North and Napier depots are reportedly facing potential job losses - and it's been decided the Northern Division freight line won't temporarily reopen between Masterton and Pahiatua.

The state-owned enterprise is reporting a better than forecast 33-percent drop in operating surplus - but passenger rail is recovering post-pandemic.

Interislander revenue is up five-percent, and it's up 41-percent for Great Journeys.
