Belief our assisted dying service needs fine-tuning

Belief our assisted dying service needs fine-tuning

Assisted deaths made up 1.25 percent of all deaths in the 12 months to April this year - slightly more than previous years.

Former End-of-Life Choice Society president Ann David, says a lot of people still don't know about the service - as doctors can't volunteer this information.

She says many people with terminal diseases also can't prove they're likely to die within six months - which is why cancer makes up the majority of diagnoses.

David says they can't at the moment be found eligible because their disease trajectory is not predictable.
