A 16-year old accused of murdering a US student has pleaded not guilty - and will go to trial in August next year

33-year-old Kyle Whorrall was fatally attacked at a bus-stop in Auckland's Meadowbank last month.

The accused has appeared at the High Court in Auckland this morning - and been remanded in custody.

A 32-year-old woman also pleaded not-guilty to being an accessory after the fact, via video link.

People in the packed gallery included Whorrall's visibly upset mother.

Justice Lang's set aside four weeks for the trial.
