A disappointing punishment for a computer and IT retailer, for breaching the law over warranties

PB Tech was fined 77-thousand dollars, for selling more than four-thousand extended warranties without giving customers enough information about the Consumer Guarantees Act.
Consumer New Zealand says the law is difficult to enforce, so it's good to see those who take advantage of it be pulled up.
But CEO Sue Chetwin says the fine averages out around 20-dollars per warranty sold - nothing compared to the hundreds of dollars they can go for.
Even after the fine, the company's likely to still have made money from the venture.
She says it almost shows the retailers it's worth taking the risk.
PB Tech have not responded to a request for comment.
