    The police officer behind the wheel during a chase that left two people dead remains in the force, despite the Independent Police Conduct Authority finding his driving was dangerous and unjustified


    Our political editor Barry Soper says the IPCA said the officer should have faced a criminal investigation.

    The chase in October last year lasted little more than a minute and saw the officer driving at speeds of up to 200 kilometres an hour - where 80 kph was the speed limit.

    The fleeing VW Golf crashed into a tree in Auckland's St Lukes Road, killing two and seriously injuring three, including the driver who's now in jail.

    Police say it's too late for the officer to face charges and he continues to work for the force.
