It's an ambitious goal...but the Government says it's still committed to New Zealand declaring Smokefree status by 2025

Associate Health Minister Jenny Salesa says to have as many as 5000 smoking-related deaths a year is unacceptable.
And she says she's deeply concerned that we're likely to miss the Smokefree goal by a wide margin, for Maori in particular.
Salesa says New Zealand's tobacco control programme is comprehensive and in line with international best practice.
Her comments follow Otago University research warning the country is falling behind in the Smokefree programme.
