Police are asking for any witnesses to a fatal crash in the Waikato to come forward

Four vehicles were involved in the incident on State Highway 1 near Taupiri, shortly before 2 this afternoon.

Police believe a small car entered the northbound lane following a nose-to-tail in the southbound... before being struck by a ute with a trailer.

A 70-year-old passenger in the car died at the scene.

The car's driver and an infant, as well as two people from other vehicles, were taken to hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
