A Northland family believes their plans to go to the Anzac Day dawn service may have saved their lives

Their family home in Kaikohe was engulfed in fire in the early hours of yesterday morning.
But the couple, their two daughters and six grandchildren were spending the night in a nearby family homestead, so they could get up early to go to the service.
Ash and a charred structure are all that remains of their house.
