Hotter summers are destroying the South Island's iconic ice formations

NIWA's latest aerial survey of South Island glaciers found a stark pattern of decline.
Climate scientist Dr Andrew Lorrey says warming and cooling throughout the year is normal - but climate change is throwing off the balance.
He says more extreme summer temperatures have been really bad for the health of the glaciers.
Lorrey says many smaller glaciers risk being lost forever.
