'Frenzied' cattle 'foamed at the mouth' as they trampled fleeing woman in Wales

A 49-year-old grandmother is "lucky to be alive" after being trampled by a "frenzied" herd of cattle while walking in the countryside.

A 49-year-old grandmother in Wales is reportedly "lucky to be alive" after she was trampled by a "frenzied" herd of cattle while walking in the countryside.

Lisa Wells, from a town on the north coast of Wales, was walking with her seven-year-old granddaughter Bethan when she was charged by the animals, the BBC reported.

She suffered injuries to her ribs, shoulder and hand, and her partner said it would have been worse if two mountain bikers had not intervened.

"The herd was led by a big bull and they had surrounded Lisa and Bethan on a small mound of higher ground," Chris Mutton told the BBC.

After hearing screams, two mountain bikers went to help, trying to scare the cattle away.

"The two guys told me that the herd were foaming at the mouth in some sort of frenzy and the bull was gouging the ground with his head and stamping his feet," Mr Mutton said.

"They managed to shoo the herd away and then everyone made off to try to get to the safety of a fence line when the herd turned and charged.

"Lisa didn't quite make it. She put herself in between the bull and little Bethan."

Rescuer Alun Jones said "it was mad — unlike anything I've ever seen before".

Ms Wells suffered a broken shoulder, seven broken ribs and a wound on her hand, while her granddaughter escaped with bruises.

Mr Mutton said his partner was "very lucky to be alive" after the incident.
