Greenpeace is blaming bad transport policy for a sharp rise in New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions

New figures from Stats NZ show household emissions increased almost 20-percent between 2007 and 2017, due to increased road travel.
Emissions from tourism increased at the same rate, as foreign visitors spent more time on the road.
Greenpeace executive director Russel Norman says government transport policy over the period favoured inefficient cars.
He says there's been a big focus on roads over public transport, walking and cycling, with no standards for energy-efficient cars.
