Maritime NZ is still investigating a small oil spill reported in the far north
3 July 2019
Aerial photos taken by the Defence Force over Three Kings Island, north-west of Cape Reinga, didn't show visible oil in the water or shore.
But Maritime's Controller Bruce Barton says further investigation is necessary.
He says the forecast bad weather would likely disperse any oil, and could minimise the impact in the area.
Barton says wildlife experts have advised the island has a a limited number of species.
