All flights in and out of Invercargill have been cancelled, and heavy snow warnings are in place for Southland, Clutha and southern Fiordland.
The same goes for Canterbury north of Rangiora, and Marlborough south of Ward.
State Highway 93 near Gore and State Highway 94 between Fiordland Park Boundary and Chasm are closed overnight.
MetService forecaster Paul Ngamanu says it'll still be very chilly tonight.
He says the showers will continue through tomorrow with the snow slowly lifting during the day.
