Dunedin's mayor has offered his condolences at the death of former Ngai Tahu CEO Tahu Potiki

Potiki died on Tuesday evening.

He was diagnosed with end-stage liver disease in 2014 but the cause of his death is yet to be shared.

Mayor Dave Cull says Potiki was a long-time cultural advisor to Council.

He says he'd often call upon his wealth on knowledge and experience - and his staunch yet mellow persona will be greatly missed.
