Tom Bruce went down with a knee injury, but batted on before being dismissed soon after.
Then two Sri Lankan fielders collided and were carried off after trying to take a catch late in the match and deny the Black Caps a six.
New Zealand captain Tim Southee is hopeful it's not as bad as it sounds.
