Police were called to a Rakaia address early on Wednesday morning - after a man found his co-worker dead in bed.
The victim was 29-year-old Tony Waldron.
It was initially reported Waldron died of a gunshot wound - but police now say that's not the case.
Scene examinations of two Gardiners Road addresses continued throughout the weekend.
A man was arrested in relation to the death on Friday, but has not be charged in relation to the homicide.
