Civil Defence and Associate Tourism Minister Peeni Henare have been in Te Anau - at the inaugural A-F-8 Tourism Forum.
It's focused helping tourists in the event of a big earthquake.
Southland District Mayor Gary Tong says Milford Sound and the road in and out of Queenstown are huge areas of concern.
Tong says they've made sure all major players have emergency procedures in place.
