The study of the public's cash use for this year, found 80 percent of people prefer electronic bank cards.
Assistant Governor Christian Hawkesby says the results reinforce the cash system's need to evolve.
Hawkesby says cash is still useful to people who are digitally, financially or socially excluded.
He says those people would be severally affected if cash was to disappear - so the focus is on ensuring the cash system remains resilient.
