32-year-old Venod Skantha is on trial at the High Court in Dunedin, accused of murdering 16-year-old Amber-Rose Rush.
His ex-girlfriend, Brigid Clinton, has told of his actions after they got the news about Amber-Rose - the night after she died.
Clinton says they travelled to Dunedin the next day - where Skantha and a teenage friend told her Amber-Rose's mother, Lisa-Ann Mills, had asked to see them.
She says Mills was composed but seemed pale and in shock.
Clinton says Skantha sat with Mills and talked to her - even offering her some names of people who could've done it.
