The man charged with assaulting Green Party co-leader James Shaw could've received a lighter sentence

47-year-old Paul Harris from Wainuiomata punched Shaw in the face as he walked to Parliament in March - leaving him with a broken eye socket.
Herald reporter Melissa Nightingale says Harris was sentenced to nine months in prison... because he had no interest in home or community detention.
She says Harris wasn't interested in electronically monitored sentences.
