Bureau of Meteorology state manager Jane Golding says 40C temperatures on Saturday will be accompanied by dry northwesterly winds.
Conditions will be similar to New Year's Eve, except the cooling southerly wind change is forecast to move north along the coast later in the day.
The NSW government has declared a seven-day state of emergency starting tomorrow.
Rural Fire Service Deputy Commissioner Rob Rogers has also warned conditions on Saturday could be worse than those on New Year's Eve.
