More than 25 separate blazes have been burning across Canterbury, Otago and Southland.
Fire and Emergency shift manager Daniel Reilly says crews are still working to control a large blaze at Burkes Pass between Fairlie and Lake Tekapo village.
He says they're planning to bring in five helicopters and several ground crews.
A number of the fires are old controlled burns which have been whipped up and reignited in high winds.
