A chance visit to an Auckland high school has solved a mystery in the art world

A chance visit to an Auckland high school has solved a mystery in the art world

The 'April' painting from acclaimed artist Dame Louise Henderson's The Twelve Months series has been found at Mt Albert Grammar School.

Ten of the 12 part series are on display in Auckland Art Gallery's current exhibition - but curators didn't know where April was and August can't be displayed because it's been altered.

However, a gallery staff member attended a function at the school and spotted the painting in an art collection lining the hallways.

It hasn't been included in the Auckland exhibition, but could be included when the exhibition travels to Christchurch.
