There are fears coronavirus cases in the US will spiral even further, as the White House pushes to reopen the country on the back of high unemployment figures

The US economy has lost a staggering 20.5 million jobs in April, the steepest plunge in payrolls since the Great Depression

Unemployment has reached 14.7 percent, shattering the post- World War Two record of 10.8 percent.

CNN national security correspondent Vivian Salama says a hasty reopening of the country could trigger another severe wave of Covid-19.

She says there's an economic danger in that because a stop-start scenario would very detrimental.
