The owner of Newstalk ZB and the NZ Herald has applied to the Auckland High Court for an interim injunction against Nine Entertainment - Stuff's parent company - to enforce exclusive takeover negotiations.
Justice Sarah Katz has reserved a decision until Monday.
The hearing follows an exchange of statements earlier this week after NZME filed an urgent Commerce Commission application to purchase Stuff for a nominal sum of one dollar.
Nine Entertainment says the parties had withdrawn from the bid last week and terminated talks.
