Major banks say mortgage rates are diving towards levels not seen in 'generations'

ASB will offer 2.69 per cent over two years fixed on home loans from tomorrow - undercutting moves made by rival banks this week.
ASB retail banking manager Craig Sims says rates going much lower would be truly historic.
He says you have to go back multiple generations to see rates in the low 2-percent range.
Sims says the rates will be welcome news for home owners managing mortgages, as well as first home buyers.
