A community bid to lower the speed limit around Kaukapakapa School, north of Auckland, has paid off

It will be lowered from 50 to 40 kilometres per hour during peak school traffic times from today.
The school sits on State Highway 16, which is an alternate route north from Auckland.
New Zealand Transport Agency's Steve Mutton says the school is really happy with the outcome.
He says it can get really busy with people who don't know there's a school on the roadside - so this will make it safer for children walking and cycling to school.
