There have already been two deaths on the roads this Labour Weekend, a motorcyclist who died in Upper Hutt last night and another person who lost their life in a Gisborne crash early this morning.
The road toll is already double that of last year's, when one person died.
Waka Kotahi Transport Agency spokesman Mark Owen says he wants everyone to arrive at their destination safely.
He says everyone can play their part, by sticking to the speed limit, watching following distances, being patient and taking regular breaks.
