City councillors have signed off a 179-million dollar strengthening plan to fix the existing building.
There were five options to choose from, including demolition.
The one they've gone with is the most expensive strengthening option - however the price has been reduced from an initial estimate of 200-million dollars.
Councillor Fleur Fitzsimons says it future proofs the building, which has been closed since March last year.
She says work begins straight away, with the library aimed to be back in business by May 2025.
