A businessman charged over the death of a popular barman says he is not to blame

Ben Caldicott-Elwell died after his motorbike collided with a trailer on a Northern Motorway on-ramp near Kaiapoi in December 2017.
A 50-year-old man with name suppression is on trial for careless driving causing death.
The Herald's Kurt Bayer says the court heard the man does not believe he was in the wrong.
Bayer says the businessmen's wife gave evidence the motorbike was travelling so fast, she had to brace herself.
The trial is expected to last three days.
