The group lobbying to lower the voting age has appealed a High Court decision
13 November 2020
The High Court has declined "Make it 16's" application for a declaration of inconsistency with the Bill of Rights Act.
Make it 16 co-director, Gina Dao-McLay, says the High Court was wrong to conclude that the current voting age of 18 is a reasonable limit on the right to be free from discrimination.
A Notice of Appeal was filed last week, and a Court of Appeal hearing is expected next year.
