Rubbish and recycling company Waste Management's been sentenced at the Hamilton District Court over the accident in Kerepehi, in the Hauraki District.
It's been fined 400 thousand dollars and ordered to pay 50 thousand to the worker, whose arm was broken and lost skin off his hand.
WorkSafe says it was unacceptable the machine's conveyor belt guard was missing, the man couldn't reach the emergency button and wasn't being supervised.
