Watson was found guilty of murdering Ben Smart and Olivia Hope in 1998 in the Marlborough Sounds.
His dad, Chris Watson, says they're caught in a circular argument.
He says corrections requires an admission of guilt before Watson is allowed to do the courses required to be granted parole.
An appeal hearing is set for mid next year, over concerns about the forensic evidence used in the conviction.
